GBT - Guided Biofilm Therapy
We continue to invest in treatments, training equipment that helps us to provide you with the best service and levels of treament.
We recently installed the latest in Guided Biofilm Therapy. This EMS facility provides a minimally invasive approach to oral hygiene that focuses on the systematic removal of biofilm (a sticky film of bacteria) from teeth and gums.
It uses a combination of diagnostic tools and specialised equipment like Airflow to achieve a gentle, yet thorough cleaning. We use this to provide a proactive and preventative method for managing your oral health. It's particularly beneficial for those with gum disease, implants, or orthodontic appliances.

Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment
When you join our practice as a new patient, you’ll undergo a thorough Oral Health Assessment. This includes a detailed medical and social evaluation, along with a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums. This process helps us gauge your current oral health, pinpoint any areas needing attention, and develop a tailored monitoring plan for your future visits.
Personal Care Plans
Once we have assessed your oral health, we’ll work together to create a personal care plan. This plan will empower you to take an active role in maintaining your dental health. Our goal is to minimize the need for invasive treatments by keeping you free from decay and gum disease, which we believe is entirely achievable. We’ll review your dental health regularly at six-month intervals to ensure you stay on track.
Understanding Gum Disease
Gum disease can lead to tooth loss, but it’s not just about routine cleanings. It’s vital to understand the prevention of dental disease and how it affects your overall health.
The Role of Our Dental Hygienists
Our dental hygienists play a crucial role in your care. Their main focus is professional cleaning—often referred to as a scale and polish—but they also educate patients on maintaining plaque-free teeth. Working alongside your dentist, they provide personalized solutions to meet your dental needs.

The importance of oral hygiene treatment
Regular professional cleanings, combined with diligent home care, are key to sustaining a healthy mouth. A clean mouth not only enhances your appearance but also helps you retain your teeth and enjoy fresh breath.
What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease is a serious infection that affects the gums and bone supporting your teeth. Often progressing painlessly, many adults are unaware they have it. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to saving your teeth. To succeed in this, it’s essential to follow the oral hygiene regimen demonstrated during your visits.
Causes of periodontal disease
The primary cause of periodontal disease is the buildup of plaque bacteria. This colorless mass can irritate your gums, leading to redness and swelling. If left unremoved, plaque hardens into tartar, which requires professional cleaning to prevent further issues.
